Character: Jason Grace
Canon: Percy Jackson & the Olympians, canonpoint is between Heroes of Olympus and Trials of Apollo
Age: 16
Background Information: Wiki link here
Personality:
As the son of Jupiter, king of the gods, Jason has always been put up on a pedestal. People expect great things of him. He's the de facto leader, always heroic and brave. He's the perfect all-American boy, straight-laced and responsible. Everyone agrees that he's considerate, selfless and honorable – everything a son of Jupiter should be.
And as his brother Hercules tells him once, that pressure is too much for some people. Jason isn't an exception.
Due to abandonment issues after being literally left for the wolves as a toddler, Jason felt compelled to try to live up to those expectations for a long time. He never wanted to be the kind of person who'd break promises or let anyone down. He hates bullies and he always wants to go to bat for the underdogs. It's made him into a people pleaser, and only cements the image people have of him as the prototypical hero. Despite all that, he's never really wanted the special treatment he gets. He deliberately joined the "worst" legion in Camp Jupiter, wanting to help restore their honor and make a name for himself rather than relying on who his dad is, and he wishes for the kind of freedom his older sister has as a Hunter of Artemis. It's just hard to shake the "perfect hero" persona sometimes when parts of it are just genuinely him – honest, kind, loyal, selfless.
But time away from the community he grew up in, plus some amnesia, gave him the opportunity to be a little more himself. He turns out to be kind of a dork, with a decent sense of humor. He's able to relax more and finds himself enjoying the less strict, militaristic lifestyle. And for all that the gods and fate seem determined to make him the prototypical hero, he's happy to give up his leadership roles and let others take center stage and take the attention off him. He starts to lose some of the respect and reverence for his father that had been instilled in him by Camp Jupiter. He and his perfect girlfriend even finally broke up after a relationship that had been built largely on expectations placed on both of them and fake memories from a goddess shoving them together like Barbie dolls.
Unfortunately, Jason seems doomed to keep playing the hero's role just by virtue of being genuinely good. With a prophecy looming over his head saying either he or said ex-girlfriend will die, he's resigned himself to it to protect her. To the very end, even at the cost of his own life, he'll put others first and do the right thing.
Abilities & Inventory:
Suitability & Plans:
More than anything, Jason deserves a fucking break. He's gone his whole life either in a child army or questing to save the world, and it'd be nice to let him just breathe and learn to be himself without any expectations or world-ending threats looming over him. And at his current canonpoint, he's received a prophecy of his own death and is basically just waiting for it to come, so this dreamland interlude is extra time he wouldn't have gotten otherwise. I think it'll be interesting to dig into that conflict between the responsible hero and the teenager who just wants to get to live his own life for a little while before it's over.
Luckily, he's an open-minded, likeable guy, so he won't have a hard time getting to know new people, and he has friends here he's happy to get more time with. He can make new friends and enjoy some downtime for once while he has this chance.
